A little more than 20 kilometers from the town of Cangas de Onis, is hidden among mountains, a natural wonder of Asturias: the Covadonga Lakes. Located more than 1,000 meters above sea level, they have a glacial origin, being its two main lakes the Enol and Ercina.<\/p>

The largest is the Enol, of crystal clear waters, at the bottom of which is an image of the Virgin of Covadonga, which every September 8 is taken out to commemorate the Feast of the Santina, the date on which, according to Asturian tradition, the virgin appeared to Don Pelayo and his troops in 722.<\/p>

A hundred meters higher (1108 mts.), surrounded by herds of grazing animals, with the sound of cow bells in freedom and a panoramic view of the summit of Pe\u00f1a Santa de Enol, is located Ercina Lake, which is smaller, with transparent waters, and whose color varies depending on the aquatic vegetation and lighting, going through different shades of green and sometimes can present bluish-green, yellowish and even reddish tones.<\/p>
